Kuratorium für Verkehrssicherheit (KfV), Austria - Coordinating Partner of INTEGRIS



The KfV organises its diverse fields of activity into three departments:
  • Transport & Mobility
  • Home, Leisure & Sports
  • Property & Fire
All departments and teams of the KfV are interdisciplinary, consisting of e.g. solicitors, teachers, psychologists, sociologists, statisticians and technicians, and they work together on the full spectrum of issues and within all fields of expertise. The activities involve innovative approaches to research and implementation of safety recommendations.
The KfV strives to expand the research work and to continue developing high quality safety measures with balanced costs and benefits in order to be one of the leading organisations in the European Union.
The Department of Home, Leisure & Sports in the KfV analyses injury risks at home, during leisure time and in sports. It is the only organisation in Austria to collect data on injuries in these parts of life. This first-hand collection of information serves as the basis for identifying accident causes, injury patterns and accident hot spots. From the results preventive measures and communicate these to the media, politicians and the public are determined.


Consumer Safety Institute (CSI), The Netherlands



The CSI was established in 1983 with the support of the Dutch Department of Health, which remains the main funding partner. The CSI is playing a leading role in the development of a European injury surveillance structure. It is acting as a European key agency for injury epidemiology and home safety research.
The CSI is a collaborating centre in the World Health Organisation's Injury Prevention Programme, and is playing a leading role in the establishment of a globally-accepted system for the coding and classification of injuries, an adjunct to the WHO's International Classification of Diseases. The CSI also co-ordinates the organisation of the World Conferences on Injury Prevention and serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal for Injury Control and Safety Promotion. Moreover, the CSI acts as the permanent secretariat of the European association of Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion (EuroSafe), which organises regular workshops and meetings on safety research and promotion.

University of Southern Denmark (USD), Denmark



The National Institute of Public Health, Denmark (NIPH), has since 1 January 2007 merged with the University of Southern Denmark.
The primary purpose of NIPH is to do research into the health and morbidity of the Danish population and the functioning of the health care system with special emphasis on application-oriented research to carry out monitoring and surveillance of the health and morbidity development of the Danes. Performing reviews and consultancy for public authorities and participating in post-graduate education within public health science and social medicine is another field of scientific work.

University of Wales Swansea (University of Wales), United Kingdom



Funded by the Wales Office for Research and Development in 2006, the Health Information Research Unit (HIRU) at the University is a collaboration bringing together expertise in health information to support and conduct research. The core of HIRU's work is data linkage: bringing together person-level data drawn from operational and national systems and, using a novel anonymisation process, linking datasets together to form a rich information base. Data sources are not restricted to health and include many other settings, including social services, housing, transport, and education. HIRU applies its expertise to a wide variety of research, designed to improve health and healthcare, working with Welsh, UK and international research groups.
The Injury and Environment Research Group conducts international quality research into the causes, consequences and prevention of injuries. The group aims to determine how personal, social and environmental factors interact to result in injury events and how these can be prevented and also carries out research on the measurement of the burden of injuries on individuals and society The group uses the entire spectrum of research designs from systematic reviews of the literature, ecological and cross-sectional studies, case-control and case-cross-over studies, qualitative studies, retrospective and prospective cohort studies and large scale individual and cluster randomised trials of promising interventions. The group is involved with several national and international collaborations.

Istituto Superiore di Sanitá Rome (ISS), Italy



The Istituto Superiore di Sanitá Rome (ISS) is the leading technical and scientific public body of the Italian National Health Service. Its activities include research, control, training and consultation in the interest of public health protection. The Institute conducts scientific research in a wide variety of fields, from cutting-edge molecular and genetic research to population-based studies of risk factors for disease and disability. Research priorities are based on those set forth in the National Health Plan. The Institute is also involved in several major clinical trials, which are frequently conducted in cooperation with the Scientific Institutes for Research and Care (IRCCS) network and Hospitals.
The Institute serves as a major source of information relating to public health and biomedicine in Italy through online connections to national and international scientific databases and data banks. It also serves as the national reference centre for MEDLARS (MEDical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System), a comprehensive international data bank coordinated by the US National Library of Medicine (NLM). The Institute produces numerous publications, including a quarterly peer-reviewed journal, technical reports, a monthly newsletter describing the Institute's major research activities, and a national epidemiological bulletin.

National Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia (NIPH), Slovenia



The Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia was established by Government of the Republic of Slovenia in 1992. With nine regional health care institutes it represents the basic preventive work in the filed of health care on the national level. Among the most important, the following areas are included: social medicine, hygiene, and environmental health, epidemiology of communicable diseases, health care informatics, public health laboratories, mental hygiene and health promotion.
The staff of the institute organizes and analyzes health-related statistical data in the fields of diagnoses, attendance, staff and visiting hours in out-patient facilities, out-patient specialist services and in hospitals. The collected data is published in the Health Statistics Year Book and makes the data available to the users at home and abroad.

Skadeforebyggende Forum (NSF), Norway



The Norwegian Safety Forum (NSF) is a national centre designed to provide information on safety and enhance cooperation between public bodies, non-governmental organisations and trade and industry, in order to promote safety efforts in Norway. It was founded in 1985 on the initiative of the Association of Norwegian Insurance Companies (ANIC) who finances the secretariat which now is about two man-years. During the period 1992-96, four ministries contributed to strengthen the secretariat to four persons: Ministry of Children and Family Affairs, Ministry of Local Government and Labour, Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. An annual meeting among the members selects persons to form the Board of NSF, who approves the strategic and working plans and the budgets. The three main aims of NSF are: 1) to be a meeting place, 2) to disseminate knowledge, 3) to motivate for preventive actions.

PSYTEL delivers coordination services for engineering international cooperation projects throughout the entire life cycle: from the stage of the idea to the project success. The Project Office is an operational structure, staffed by a team under the direction of an experienced Project Manager. The principal activities of this structure include: set-up and maintenance of the Project Handbook, Project Guideline, Project archive and follow-up of actions.
PSYTEL's staff maintains links with the European Commission since 1989. These cover Community aspects of research and development, in particular such topics as information technology, telecommunication, telematics and public health.

Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam (EUR), The Netherlands



As part of Erasmus MC, the Department of Public Health has two main tasks: scientific research and academic teaching. According to a widely used definition, public health is "the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organized efforts of society". The scientific research of the department focuses on two main themes:
  • determinants of population health
  • effects of interventions on population health
The research of the Department is centered on the development of effective and efficient public health interventions with main focus on the health of populations. The department specializes in development and application of quantitative research methods, including functional outcome measurement and the quantification of the economic and health impact of diseases and injuries.
Only a small part of the scientific research of the department is funded by the University. Most of the activities are funded by grants from a wide variety of sources, including the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), the European Union, the World Health Organization, the Netherlands Heart Foundation, the Health Insurance Executive Board, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports, and many others.

Ministry of Social Affairs Estonia (MSAE), Estonia



The area of government of the Ministry shall include the drafting and implementation of plans to resolve state social issues, the management of public health protection and medical care, employment, the labour market and working environment, social security, social insurance and social welfare, promotion of the equality of men and women and coordination of activities in this field, promotion of sports activities of disabled people and the preparation of corresponding draft legislation.
The Ministry of Social Affairs is developing the National Health Strategy. The main goal of this strategy is to attain the rise of the quality of life of the people and continuous decrease of illness and mortality of the population and to ensure everybody the best maximum health status possible.

The objective for the year 2010 is increase in healthy lived years and increase in average life expectancy of men to 72 and women to 78 through continuous decrease in illness and mortality of the population and increase in health related life quality.

National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF), Ireland



The NSRF consists of a multi-disciplinary team with contributions from a broad range of disciplines, including epidemiology, psychology, psychiatry and biostatistics. The foundation has been recognised by the Department of Health and Children as an official research unit to contribute to the prevention of suicidal behaviour in Ireland. The NSRF has been recognised as the centre of excellence and the Irish focal point for information regarding suicide and its prevention by the WHO.

The aims of the National Suicide Research Foundation are:
  • To produce a nationally and internationally recognised body of reliable knowledge from a multidisciplinary perspective on the risk and protective factors associated with suicidal behaviour.
  • To provide a solid evidence base for policy development and intervention in the prevention of suicide and the management of patients presenting with deliberate self harm.
NSRF bring then years of monitoring deliberate self-harm in Ireland in addition to experience gained in acting as a clearing house and resource as part of the IDB "All Injuries Task Force" to the project (PHP 2003 IDB project).
